There has been a great interest in the local community from parents, grandparents and past pupils in our new building. To give people the chance to see it for themselves the school will have an open day this Saturday from 10am-1pm.
All are welcome.
Monday 30th April
Well done to the Girl's Cricket team that traveled to Malahide on Monday to play St. Andrew's. In a very sporting game St. Andrew's came out on top. All the players got to bat for 3 overs and anyone who wanted to bowl was able to. A few players tried out the game for the first time as well. So a great day.
Tuesday 1st May
The Girls Junior Gaelic team played their final group match on Tuesday. In a cracking game between the teams Gael Scoil Baile Brigin came out on top by 2 points. This is the end of the group stage for the girls. It was a year of many firsts: our first year fielding a girls team, a first time playing Gaelic football for many girls and our first win. Well done girls and thanks to Mr McGuinness for all his hard work running the team.
Thursday 3rd May
Well done to the Boys Cricket Team on their second Super League victory today. The game took place in Margaretstown Cricket Club (MCG) and the opposition were St. Oliver Plunkett's Malahide. This was a real case of David vs Goliath in terms of schools. The opposition has over 900 students, while Milverton has only 93 pupils.
However a superb team performance saw Milverton come out on top. The final score was:
Milverton 128-1, 20 overs
St. Oliver Plunkett's. 76-9, 20 overs
In 2016 the school in conjunction with Realt na Mara painted a mural on the theme of climate change/climate justice. This is on permanent display at SuperValu in Skerries. There is a documentary on our website about this on the Global Citizenship page.
This year all of the children in the school will paint a mural on-site. The mural painting will be facilitated by artist Eimear McNally and the Trocaire Development Education team.
This will start with a Development Education workshop with Lydia McCarthy of Trocaire with 5th & 6th class on Friday 4th May.
We had two cricket fixtures this week:
Fingal Girls Cup
Milverton played Balrothery on Tuesday 24th of April. The fixture was due to be played in the Vineyard at the Hill CC but had to be switched due to the weather. Thanks to Balrothery the game was moved indoors to North County. In a very entertaining game, Captain Emily O'Sullivan and her teammates played very well. On the day Balrothery were the better team and won the game. Well done to all who played in a very sporting game.
Cricket Super League
The Boy's cricket team kicked off their season in great style on Wednesday 25th of April. The fixture was played at North County CC and like the girl's team our opponents were Balrothery NS. The match proved to be very one sided with Milverton scoring 109-1 and Balrothery scored 6 all out. Milverton won by 103 runs. Well done to everyone on a very sporting game.
Best of luck and have fun to all those taking part.
